Now remember, don't get caught up in trying to figure out the PERFECT hard drive to buy. The main goal is to get your memories backed up.
Having said that let me share some things I thought about when I bought my hard drive.
- Desktop or Portable? Typically you can get more storage for your dollar if you go with a desktop hard drive but desktop drives also require power. So if you don't have an outlet to plug in you may want to look at a portable drive.
- WD or Segate? I've owned both and have had no problems with either, but recently they've swapped positions with their warranties. WD now has a 3 year warranty vs. the 2 year warranty provided by Seagate.
- Mac vs. PC? Doesn't matter. Any hard drive can be formatted to work with your computer. Some of the options will look more Mac like and be formatted properly out of the box. The only difference is some style and the price!
- Cloud? Each manufacturer have come out with a hard drive that you connect to your router that then becomes accessible over the Internet with a password. But remember, don't worry about the bells and whistles of the latest drives. Backing up your memories now is your first priority.
I've included a few photos of the hard drive I picked up so feast your eyes. :)
